Stanton Peel started his talk with a song he made up about a nightmare he’d had last night about doing a talk and everybody left – so now he felt under great duress, he joked. He then spoke about Iboga in a way that most of the audience did leave – maybe not physically, but emotionally and mentally, as he confessed his skepticism about the use of a drug to heal drug addiction. He felt that this was a fantasy that would never manifest in reality, like the situation after the guy discovered endorphins in 1976 – this was thought to be a cure-all for addiction, pain, and schizophrenia etc. but turned out to be nothing of the sort. However, contradicting himself on this, Stanton did present at least one case of a male treated with Ibogaine that turned his life around. He also showed us a study that showed a group of physicians and a group of street addicts, who were both treated for drug addiction – one group (physicians) had 90 % cure and the other (street people) had 90% recidivism (relapse) showing the importance of context (or maybe also that it might be better to treat physicians if you want your stats to look good). He pointed out that in the last decade (since the American invasion of Afghanistan) Heroin Overdoses had nearly quadrupled with >8200 in the USA in 2013! Overall it was an interesting talk even if skeptical of the use of Ibogaine, and I think he might have a lot more to add and his tune might change slightly if he tries a dose of Ibogaine himself.

The next talk was from a friendly fellow, Dr. Andrew Tatarsky, who was qualified with several degrees and doctorates also from New York.
